HURRICANE KATRINA PROGRAM MANAGEMENT/RESPONSE AND RECOVERY

Hurricane KatrinaÌýwas an extremely destructive ÌýÌýthat made landfall onÌýÌýandÌý, particularly the city ofÌýÌýand the surrounding areas, in August 2005, causing catastrophic damage from centralÌýÌýto easternÌý. Subsequent flooding around the city ofÌý displaced thousands of residents.

In response to Hurricane Katrina, our team members:

  • Mobilized 3,000 people in two days throughout multiple locations of New Orleans and Houston
  • Provided 1,800 team members in four days to establish a disaster relief center in the Houston Astrodome, assisting 27,000 evacuees from the New Orleans area
  • Set up disaster relief centers in Texas and processed approximately 170,000 evacuees at Red Cross Centers
  • Provided 17 mobile disaster relief centers across Texas, Louisiana and Florida
  • Built 600 mobile trailer group site on Groom Road in East Baton Rouge, and 59 group housing sites to provide shelter to more than 20,000 families
  • Managed the Kelly Air Force Base shelter
  • Cleared waterways of debris and 417 vessels
  • Installed 4,500 ft. of water/sewer lines along with electrical systems and power lines
  • Constructed 3,550 ft. of asphalt roads, in addition to designing and building two 3,000-gpm wastewater treatment plants
  • Unwatered New Orleans in 17 days – two months ahead of schedule
